Located in South Windsor, Connecticut, the piano studio of Rebecca M. Calissi provides a well-rounded musical education that develops students' abilities to their fullest potential. Each student receives a thoughtful and individualized approach to the piano that encourages the sharing of music with others and helps create a life-long appreciation of music.

About

Rebecca McNair Calissi received a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Huntingdon College and a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has accompanied vocalists, instrumentalists, and ensembles throughout the Southeast and New England regions and premiered new works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and opera. In addition to her private piano studio, Rebecca is the accompanist for South Windsor public schools, an adjunct professor of music at Eastern Connecticut State University, and serves as Music Director at Flagg Road United Church of Christ in West Hartford.

Students of the Calissi Piano Studio perform in two recitals per year, participate in the Hartford Music Teachers Alliance festivals, and prepare for assessments through The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. Under her mentorship and guidance, Rebecca’s students have become successful musicians in their own right, performing as the student accompanist for their school chorus, orchestra, concert band and jazz band, and as soloists at the Connecticut Governor's Residence and Carnegie Hall.

Philosophy

Calissi Piano Studio provides a structured musical education in a positive and supportive environment. During a course of study, all areas of musicianship are covered: theory, technique, ear-training, sight reading, performance, and a comprehensive study of Classical music literature. Students are led to understand musical concepts and develop skills that will prepare them for each sequential piece.

Although performance is an integral part of study, pieces will not be assigned that are far above the student’s level of ability simply for the purpose of winning a competition or impressing an audience.  The individual needs and interests of each student are carefully considered, lessons are planned accordingly, and assignments are created in a way the student can successfully progress from one piece to the next.
